A Stroll Through Proverbs: Proverbs 1:10-19

Proverbs 1:10-19

Avoid mingling with sinners

¶ 10 “My son, if sinners entice thee, (a) consent thou not.

            (a)Genesis 39:7-10, Ephesians 5:11

11 If they say, Come with us, let (a) us lay wait for blood [shed blood, harm, murder], let us lurk privily [secretly] for the innocent without cause:

            (a)Jeremiah 5:26, Proverbs 12:6

12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave [Sheol, Hell]; and whole, (a) as those that go down into the pit [Sheol, Hell]:

            (a)Psalm 28:1

13 We shall find all precious substance [wealth], we shall fill our houses with spoil [plunder, bootee, pillage]:

14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

15 My son, (a) walk not thou in the way with them; (b) refrain [keep, restrain] thy foot from their path:

            (a)Proverbs 4:14, Psalm 1:1; (b)Psalm 119:101

16 For (a) their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

            (a)Isaiah 59:7

17 Surely in vain [futility] the net is spread in the sight of any bird [lord of the wing].

18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily [secretly] for their own lives.

19 So (a) are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.”

            (a)Proverbs 15:27, 1 Timothy 6:10
