Poem From My Pen: "He Was Bound to Love Us" Copyright (c) 12.09.2009 Cynthia S Groff

Submissively at His Father’s Will, the Son departed from the right hand of God
From Heaven to the womb of God’s chosen, silently prepared to carry this Holy Child
The Second Head of the Trinity robing himself in flesh
For the reconciliation of His children deceived by the evil one

Growing, waxing strong, teacher above all teachers, marveling even them
Gathering to Himself those to walk with and build upon His foundation
Preparing the hearts of who would believe and carry on His work
The Servant of all servants, tilling the hearts of His believers

Judas did as Christ bid him to do and did so quickly
Betrayed by a kiss on the cheek, Gods’ will being fulfilled
Jesus’ hands bound in the garden by the cruel Roman soldiers
He did not struggle for His hour had begun

Beaten and spat upon, thorns shoved deep in his brow now bleeding
Those precious drops of blood had started flowing hours before the cross
Perfect and sinless each cheek turned again and again for receiving other blows
How great a love this Love indeed to lay down His life for sinners

Passed from one politician to another trying to protect their own reputation
Anger growing from the crowds provoked again by Satan
The night growing darker and darker towards the break of dawn
Time of essence they must rush to murder this One they chose not believe

Oh soul-blind men where was your faith that night
Jesus’ submissive flesh and muscles in anguishing pain
What must be done must be done at the hands of the merciless
The cross soon to receive and lift up the Lamb of God toward Heaven

Hanging between Heaven and earth nails driven in His hands and feet
Struggling to breathe and praying to His Father to forgive those upon the ground
One beside Him mocking the other promised paradise at death
The final drops of blood a heart broken for those whom He loves

It was finished and He so stated and purchased salvation for you and me
Removed and bound in grave clothes and placed in a borrowed tomb
Death defeated in three days the stone rolled away and victory won
“Why seek ye me among the dead” I am risen and alive the battle over

Bound by ropes
Bound by nails
Bound by grave clothes
He was bound to love us and He does
