The Proverbs ~ Introduction

Introduction to Proverbs

Solomon was probably the wisest man who ever lived; though, he did make plenty of unwise decisions. Still, God used Him as he is the man who penned this Book. The Hebrews and Greeks referred to this Book as the “Proverbs of Solomon” whereas the Romans (Latin) referred to the title as most of us continue to call it - the “Book of Proverbs.” The rabbinical (Jewish) term was “Book of Wisdom.”

Wisdom is that which is to be the most sought after, along with understanding. “Pro” mean “for” and “verbs” means “words.” Should we not be “for-words” to help us move “forward?” We can gain the richest wisdom and understanding from the words of “the Word” if we desire a Biblical world view. Oh, how much we need this in the world we live in right now which is literally out of control and gaining steam. It shouldn’t be a surprise…God tells us it will be worse than we can imagine (Book of Revelation). We’re “livin’ it” folks – the pre-cursor to the rapture and the explosion of the Tribulation. God has warned us: “The time is at hand.”

While we’re here and while we have the desire to seek wisdom and understanding, let’s take a stroll through Proverbs and hear in our hearts what God has to tell us about how we are to treat Him, our family members, other “earth” members, and yes, the government.

We live in this world and what
